Tricia: Today’s guest is erotic author, Scarlet Chastain. Hi, Scarlet. Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
Tricia: Describe your writing process. Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants? When and where do you write?
Tricia: Can you tell us about your most recent release?
Scarlet: BELLA KEY is a contemporary f/f erotic romance. Please don’t let the fact that it’s an f/f stop you from giving it a try. BELLA KEY is first and foremost a romance. It just happens to contain two very sexy women.
Here’s the blurb:
Maddie Jacobs must be crazy. At least that’s what her mother thinks. Professionally, she’s confident and secure; personally, she’s a hot mess. Not even a marriage proposal from a man who adores her can quell her search for something more.
In need of an escape, Maddie flees to Key West’s most southern island, Bella Key, to rest and recharge at Casa Bonita. She almost gives up on weekend retreat when the Bed & Breakfast is closed for repairs until Sunny Rojas, the inn owner, extends an offer of friendship, sweet tea and a room. Still reeling from a breakup with her longtime partner, Sunny is thankful for the diversion from her own broken heart.
The arrival of a fierce storm forces the women’s emotional journey to a head and leads them into each other’s arms. But can Maddie throw her hangups to the wind and go with her heart? The magic of Bella Key teaches her that passion cannot be placed neatly into boxes labeled right and wrong, because love knows no boundaries.
Tricia: How did you get the idea for the book?
Scarlet: I’ve always enjoyed a good f/f story. Women interact differently with each other than they do with men. I knew my first f/f had to take place in Key West when I found an ad for The Keys targeting lesbians. It was a picture of two women on a sailboat with the caption “No Dinghies Allowed.”
Tricia: Of all your characters, which one is your favorite? Why?
Scarlet: Maddie is my favorite in this story. I loved her transformation from a confused and stressed out businesswoman just going through the motions of life to a relaxed and happy person able to feel comfortable in her own skin.
Tricia: What was the most challenging aspect of writing your book?
Scarlet: Believe it or not it was the identifiers. In a M/F romance the writer can use he and she to identify. I don’t like to overuse names on my books so I had to get creative when identifying who did what.
Tricia: Which authors have inspired your writing?
Scarlet: There are too many to name but I do love Roni Loren’s writing.
Tricia: What projects are you currently working on?
Scarlet: I’m finishing a new f/f set in Paris. I really love these characters too.
Tricia: What advice would you offer to new or aspiring authors?
Scarlet: To copy a popular ad campaign: Just do it! If you really want to be published, stop procrastinating. Finish what you start and send it to a good critique partner. Seek out constructive criticism. You can’t get better without it.
Tricia: Sandra, it was wonderful having you today on Authors to Watch.
Scarlet: Thank you for having me as a guest! I appreciate you celebrating the debut of my new release, BELLA KEY, with me. 🙂
One look at the cover tells you Bella Key is an erotic female/female romance. However, first and foremost it’s love story that just happens to contain two very sexy women. So whether you’re a fan of f/f or maybe f/f-curious ~ give it a try. I think you’re going to like it. 😉
