Today, we’re visiting with Doug Simpson, author of four books in the Dacque Chronicles. He’s here to talk about his novels, his goal as a writer, and reincarnation. This has been one of the most fascinating interviews I’ve had the pleasure of posting and I hope you all enjoy it!
Tricia: Welcome, Doug, and thank you so much for joining us. Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Doug: I am a retired high school teacher who got bored with retirement and needed a challenging alternative. After retiring I spent a lot of time reading and got re-interested in the reincarnation readings of Edgar Cayce, regarded by those in his field as America’s legendary mystic. After carefully studying Edgar’s 2500 reincarnation or life readings for a couple of years, I became convinced that hidden away in the archived readings lurked an opportunity for me to share with the world my belief in survival of the soul upon the death of the body, and reincarnation. That is where the story of my second career began.
Tricia: When did you begin writing?
Doug: I commenced writing articles using the Edgar Cayce reincarnation readings in 2010 and started submitting them to appropriate magazines and websites. One of my earliest published articles was Jesus’ Secret Healing, published in Venture Inward, the magazine of Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The acceptance of my article by Venture Inward Magazine went a long way to convince me that I was doing something right. My articles have now been published in seven countries. You can read over twenty of them by visiting my website at http://dousimp.mnsi.net.
Tricia: Describe your writing process. Do you plot or write by the seat of your pants? When and where do you write?
Doug: I definitely write from the seat of my pants. I have a general idea where a story will go when I start out, but before long it always seems to take off on its own. I have learned to follow the flow and am just as excited as the readers to discover where it will end up. Because I am retired, I am free to write anytime after my wife and grandchildren have exercised their claim on my time.
Tricia: Can you tell us about your most recent release? How did you get the idea for the book?
Doug: Soul Connections, Book IV of the Dacque Chronicles, was published in April of 2013. While working on Soul Mind, Book III of the Dacque Chronicles, I hatched the idea for the fourth installment in the series. Soul Mind recounts the story of the spirit of a sudden murder victim contacting the series protagonist, Dacque LaRose, for assistance in helping to solve its murder. The logical murder suspect, a former lover of the victim, emerged as such an interesting character that she demanded her own book, Soul Connections, for an investigation into her past lifetimes shared with her current relatives, friends, and the murder victim.
Tricia: If you could recommend just one of your books to my readers, which book would you choose?
Doug: I wrote all four books in such a way that readers could select any one that they preferred or discovered, by supplying them, in each book, with the important facts from the previous installments. Having said that, I would recommend readers start with Soul Awakening, Book I of the Dacque Chronicles.
Tricia: Of all your characters, which one is your favorite? Why?
Doug: My protagonist in the Dacque Chronicles is totally fictional, but he is about my age so I blessed, or maybe that is cursed, him with many of my characteristics. He has to be my favorite.
Tricia: What was the most challenging aspect of writing your books?
Doug: All four books in The Dacque Chronicles include the discovery of past lifetimes. Many of these uncovered past lives were spent with other characters in the books, so I had to make sure there were no conflicts in the genealogy.
Tricia: What would you like to tell us about your books or your writing that someone wouldn’t discover during a casual review of your blurb or website?
Doug: Our souls belong to groups of souls which have shared previous lifetimes together and still have unfinished Karma to be dealt with in future lifetimes. Before our group of souls incarnate again, these souls figure out which soul would receive the most good Karma by residing in which body. Stop and think for a minute about your close relatives, friends, and enemies, and try to figure out why you are sharing this lifetime with them, and then honestly ask yourself whether you think you are achieving the good Karmic connections your soul hoped to achieve when it selected your body for this incarnation. If you do not like the answer, it is not too late to make changes. Go out of your way to get along with those people you do not get along with. You can bet that was one of its goals when your soul selected your body for its current adventure.
Tricia: What is your primary goal as an author?
Doug: I write about reincarnation of souls to introduce readers to the possibility that this is reality, and hope they will then do more research on their own. The answers are out there for all to find, if they will just look.
Tricia: Which authors have inspired your writing?
Doug: Edgar Cayce! More than well over 300 books have been written by or about Edgar Cayce. Over thirty of those are biographies.
Tricia: What projects are you currently working on?
Doug: I just completed a long manuscript using the Edgar Cayce readings, titled, The Soul of Jesus. It may still need some editing and definitely will require copyright approvals. I have also started Book V of the Dacque Chronicles, titled, Abandoned Soul.
Tricia: What advice would you offer to new or aspiring authors?
Doug: I am an unorthodox writer so I do not give advice on writing techniques. The one piece of advice I will emphasize is to have faith in your dream to be an author or writer and learn from your mistakes and rejections. You are only defeated when you give up!
Tricia: That’s a very good piece of advice. Thank you so much for visiting with us today!

“Hi, Honey. Glad to see you finally crawled out of bed,” Rosalie responded as she turned down the hallway towards the kitchen. Half way along she stopped in sheer horror as she heard her own voice coming from the living room. It took only a second or two for her to realize that she, and apparently her youngest daughter, was listening to one of her regression session CDs. She almost dropped the groceries on the floor, but had the fortitude to set them down gently, as one of them probably contained the dozen eggs she just purchased.
“What are you doing?” Rosalie screeched, as she charged into the living room towards the entertainment center. “Where did you get that CD? That’s personal, you know?”
Raluca, desperately attempting to stifle a grin, watched her mother remove the CD from the player. “Don’t have a hissy-fit, Mother. It was sitting in the CD player when I turned it on. I will admit that I am playing it over for the third time. Seeing as I’m mentioned on the CD, I can claim it is also personal to me, can’t I? Besides, I find it very interesting, so instead of hollering at me, why don’t you calm down a little and tell me what is going on?”
Dacque LaRose, a genuine good-guy and Good Samaritan, was accustomed to being visited by and communicating with disembodied spirits as he carried out his occasional assignments received from the Heavenly Powers. His latest spirit visit went miles beyond anything he would have ever imagined. The spirit of a former acquaintance and recent murder victim joined Dacque one morning on his favorite park bench and asked him to assist in solving his murder as the local authorities were getting nowhere, through no fault of their own but due to a lack of any substantial evidence in the case.
Dacque had absolutely no idea how he could be of assistance in solving a murder, but he was accustomed to receiving his Heavenly assignments one installment at a time so he knew the steps he would be expected to follow would appear in due course.
Dacque’s new assignment proved exciting and educational as the spirit of the murdered acquaintance gladly explained to Dacque and his detective friend the inner workings of the Soul Mind or subconscious mind.
Soul Connections, Book IV of the Dacque Chronicles
Soul Connections describes the educational journey, guided by the spirit of a sudden murder victim, of a group of individuals through the process of investigating their inter-connected past lifetimes. As well as the surprising discoveries uncovered through their past-life research, the spirit and soul of the murder victim educates its past relatives, from its previous lifetimes, in the knowledge retained by our souls after death, and in the ‘life’ of souls temporarily residing on the other side as they await their next incarnation.
