Interview with Jane O’Reilly

Today, our guest is author, Jane O’Reilly. She’s here to tell us about her recently published contemporary romance novel, She Who Dares
.

The Ugly Duckling meets Top Gear when a plain Jane mechanic comes face-to-face with the bad boy of rally racing…

Nic Sinclair spends most of her time hiding under the bonnet of a car. With her obsession with engines, a total lack of feminine wiles, and a stepsister who looks like Barbie, she understands that it’s the safest place to be.

But when Nic’s stepsister sells her half of their vintage car business and does a runner, Nic is forced to set down her wrench and deal with the fallout. Soon she’s engaged in a battle of wills with her new business partner, superstar rally driver Sebastian Prince — a battle he dares her to win.

Q: Hello, Jane. Welcome to Authors to Watch! When did you begin writing?

A: I wrote my first book when my youngest child was 10 months old. I’d been reading Janet Evanovich’s biography, and she said that she started writing when she was at home with small children. I decided that I was going to have a go, just to see if I could do it. And then I wrote another book, and another, and it all went from there.

Q: Can you tell us about your most recent release?

A: My most recent release, She Who Dares, is a sexy contemporary romance, with a mechanic heroine and a rally driver hero. She doesn’t want his help, he can’t help himself, and somewhere in all that they have to find common ground and work together.

Q: How did you get the idea for the book?

A: I often get inspiration from my husband’s TV choices – She Who Dares came about after sitting through a series of Wheeler Dealers. The heroine loves vintage cars, the hero loves fast cars – put two petrol heads together and there are all sorts of delicious explosions J My next release, The Holiday Survival Guide, was inspired by watching Bear Grylls tramping around various inhospitable places.

Q: What is your primary goal as an author?

A: My primary goal is always to write better, and to find new ways to challenge myself writing wise, so I try and read as much as I can, and go on writing courses and read craft books to learn as much as possible.

Q: What projects are you currently working on?

A: I am currently working on two projects – a series of linked erotic romance novellas which will be published by Carina UK in the spring, and a futuristic romance which I would describe as X-men in space.

Q: What advice would you offer to new or aspiring authors?

A: Read as much as you can. Write every day, including the days when you don’t want to, and remember that success isn’t out of reach until you give up.
