Best Served Cold: Book Review

Best Served Cold
A DI Frank Lyle Mystery
Book 5
By Juliet B. Madison

WARNING: This book is not recommended for persons below the age of 18.

DI Lyle is about to get a glimpse into the murky world of political activism and hate crime; the murder of a prominent city councillor is just the tip of the iceberg.

The city of Ashbeck is on high alert when news breaks that convicted triple murderer and paedophile Bob Kenyon has escaped from custody.

Can DI Lyle and his team get to the bottom of this murky mess before another atrocity occurs?

My Review: DI Frank Lyle and his team get a nasty blast from the past when Bob Kenyon escapes from prison and is on the loose. Kenyon, a convicted triple murderer and pedophile, is one of the most repulsive criminals Frank has ever faced. He won’t rest until Kenyon is apprehended. As Frank scrambles to solve the mystery of a murdered city councillor and avert another tragedy, his department must cope with a violent, extremist act. Can Frank put all the pieces of the mystery together before it’s too late?
Best Served Cold is one of DI Frank Lyle Mystery’s darkest books as it deals with such issues as sexual abuse, homophobia, and political extremism. Frank, a loving family man, is torn between protecting his wife, Jayseera, and daughter, Jasmine, while still putting all his effort into his job. This is one of Frank’s most challenging cases and since he’s already dealt with Bob Kenyon in the past, this case really hits home. I have a lot of respect for Frank both as a detective investigator, and as a family man. He never forgets each victim is more than just a new case to solve. He insists that his team give victims the respect they deserve and they work tirelessly to solve each case and to find justice for the victims and their families.
So far, I’ve read and reviewed every novel and short story collection in this series. In every review, I’ve recommended the DI Frank Lyle Mystery series and will continue to do so. Though I’m not a self-proclaimed mystery or police procedural fan, Juliet B. Madison has me hooked on this series, largely do to the likability of her characters, the thorough research that goes into each book, and her unique way of presenting each story. I am truly a fan.
My Rating: 5 out of 5 stars
